Saul Escarrega leads Tucson Champs to 6-3 victory

Saul Escarrega was strong at the plate and on the hill in carrying Tucson Champs to a 6-3 victory over Crab University on Friday at Camelback Ranch-Dodgers and White Sox Spring Training.

Escarrega racked up three RBIs on two hits for Tucson Champs. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Escarrega struck out six, paving the way for a Tucson Champs win. Escarrega allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks over five innings.

Darius Gilliam pitched lights out for Crab University. Gilliam held Tucson Champs hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Gerald Buchanan couldn’t get it done on the bump for Crab University, taking a loss. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

In the top of the first, Crab University grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Crab University got things going when Jack Ryan doubled. More runs came home for Crab University when Ryan scored on an RBI single by Trendon Craig.

The game was never in doubt after the fourth, as Tucson Champs scored four runs on two doubles.

Tucson Champs added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Escarrega singled, bringing home Nick Gonzales to start the inning.

One run in the top of the seventh helped Crab University close its deficit to 6-3. gave Crab University life. Crab University’s Andrew Tenison to end the ballgame.
